Matt Clarke is a senior product designer at The Associated Press, where he leads applied AI and design systems on the Platform team.
He started his career in Gagosian's publishing wing, where he designed exhibition ephemera and helped shape the Gagosian Quarterly. While editing the arts journal, he studied the graphic work by Paul Neale of Graphic Thought Facility and deepened his expertise in interface design.
He has since invested deeply in software and computer programming, learning web development under creative director Thomas Brodin and managing the mobile app development of Arthur Analytics.
Before joining The Associated Press, Matt worked for Odeko, a late-stage YC startup, and Datavore Labs, an early-stage startup, where he designed Datavore, a time-series analysis tool, which led to their acquisition in 2021.
He now leads the design of AP Newsroom and the AP Interface design system.
He holds a BFA in designed objects from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and studied human-computer interaction design under Christopher Baker.
Matt first interned at The New Museum of Contemporary Art and Vice Media, thanks to Julia Kaganskiy.
